In this article I am going to provide information about the cost of hiring an affordable house cleaning service in St. George and how to save money when doing so. Of course, I am occasionally going to mention my business First Impressions Home and Office Cleaning.

Depending on your circumstances, hiring a house cleaner can either be an affordable luxury, or an absolute necessity. Necessity, for example, would be someone having health problems that can’t clean but wants their home to be clean.

Affordable house cleaning: Affordability Vs. Cost:

What do house cleaning services cost in St George, UT and what does First Impressions charge?

When doing price checks of cleaning services in St George, you will find that most “mom and pop” cleaning services charge around $40 per hour. If you call a nationwide cleaning franchise you will pay about $60 to $80 per hour.

First Impressions Home and Office Cleaning charges by the hour, at a rate of $37 to $40 per person-hour, depending on the service.

Most companies charge a flat fee based on their hourly rate. So let’s say that you have a 2500 square foot home with 3 bathrooms. It would take my cleaners about 3 hours to do a full cleaning of your home if it’s not too cluttered. We would charge you $111. A flat rate company would charge you $110 to $130 per cleaning. A franchise would charge as much as $200 to $240 for a full cleaning.

The price that you pay is based on the complexity and the amount of the cleaning needed in your home. Let’s say you owned the 2500 square foot home mentioned. Let’s also say that you didn’t want the bathrooms cleaned. For us, that might reduce the cost to $74 since we charge hourly.

If the home was lightly decorated vs. very cluttered it would take us longer to clean the cluttered home so the cost would be higher.

With a flat rate company you could still have less cleaning done in your home, but you will always pay the same flat fee. If you wanted additional items cleaned you would pay more.

As an FYI, I am aware of at least one cleaning service in St. George that charges by the room. I like that idea, even though I haven’t implemented that concept in my business.

Uninsured or undocumented house cleaners. Are they providing affordable house cleaning and risk?

Briefly talking about uninsured or undocumented house cleaners. You would pay a bit less to maybe a lot less per cleaning. On the low end you could pay about $20/hour and on the high end you could pay up to the same price as the franchise companies charge. There is extra risk involved with hiring this type of cleaner, but it’s one way to save money.

You could also clean the house yourself, with a cost of zero dollars… in theory. Of course, your free time has value. Let’s say you have a day job that pays $40 an hour. Since cleaning isn’t your profession, you’ll likely work slower than our trained cleaners. Therefore, a full clean on a 2500 square foot home might take you 4 or 5 hours instead of 3. If you value your free time at $40 an hour, your “cost” for cleaning your home becomes $160 to $200.

Ultimately, the decision is yours. But hiring a professional cleaning service often proves more cost-effective and delivers a significantly better, more thorough cleaning experience.

How to save money when using a housecleaning service

1. Price shop.

You could try to find the cheapest cleaning service that you can. Maybe that will work out. To be honest I wouldn’t go this route.

2. Limit the amount of work.

Let’s say you live by yourself and there are a couple of rooms and a bathroom that you never go into. It would be a waste of money to have them cleaned so you leave them out of the cleaning scope of work. You could end up lowering your cost from $125 down to $75 (only an example of course).

3. Reduce the cleaning frequency.

Find the highest rated cleaning service you can, and then reduce the frequency of how often the cleaners come to clean.

You can choose to have your home cleaned weekly, every other week, monthly, or “on call” when you need it. The less frequent the cleaning the longer it will take to clean a home so the cost per cleaning will increase. I’ve heard of cleaning services that add 20% to the cleaning cost for monthly cleanings.

With First Impressions Home and Office Cleaning, since we charge by the hour we would end up staying longer to do a monthly cleaning of a home. So, in the same 2500 SF example, instead of three hours, it would take us three and a half hours which means your monthly cleaning cost would be about $130 vs. $111 for every other week or weekly.

Anyway that gives a run down of costs and examples of how to save money when hiring a house cleaning service.

As an afterthought, I would encourage you to call me (yes the phone goes to me, the owner) and give us a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality and reliability we provide to our clients. First Impressions Home and Office Cleaning (435) 879-1239
